To finish this month’s challenge of the month, an outfit based on the Petites Utility Mink Washed Shorts. This is quite possibly the most ambitious look as it is quite ecclectic and mixes different trends. As mentioned before, I like to team very feminine tops with utility pants and shorts, so I picked a beautiful lace print tank by Oasis – bang on the underwear as outwerwear trend. Then came the nautical sandals by Dune in the same colours, and the rest of the accessories by Accessorize. The bag needed to be simple to tie in the outfit or it would have been too busy.
Although it shouldn’t, this outfit works as it’s kept within the same colour scheme (silvers, cream and navy blue) and all the pieces rock the same casual, feminine vibe.
There is a lot going on with this pair of shorts – big pockets, turned up hems, stripes, and a big bow! – so I chose to go for simple pieces to compliment it. There was also the issue of it being described as Mint Ticking Bow Stripe Shorts on the Miss Selfridge website – surely “mint” means green, but they look pretty grey to me! So just to be on the safe side, I chose a colour palette that would flatter either colour.
I started by adding a simple white vest but to keep things interesting, chose one with some subtle embellishment – the macrame detailing teamed with the braided straps of the gladiator sandals help create a bit of a relaxed bohemian feel, and so I decided to push it a little further by adding accessories that clearly take their inspiration from India. The result is a cute, feminine, casual summer look that will look great against a tan.
What do I love? That’s right, polka dots! And as much as I hate jumpsuits, I really like wearing playsuits in summer—I find them really cute and so easy to wear. With its great wrap over neckline and bow to the side, this polka dot silk playsuit by Oasis is just ridiculously adorable. £55.
